Background Information


Manitoba Education, Research and Learning Information Networks (MERLIN) was established in
1995 as a special operating agency with the Department of Education and Youth. It was formed as
a facilitating body to coordinate the delivery of technology services to the education community
across Manitoba.

In October 2002, MERLIN was transferred to the newly formed Department of Energy, Science and Technology.

MISSION:

  • To support the use of technology in improving educational services to learners.

MANDATE:

  • Provide services that support educational institutions in the application of technology tools to
    enhance and expand program delivery; and
  • Provide direction and management in the educational use of networks, acting as a broker of
    services to meet client needs.
